Women and Equalities Committee of the UK Parliament launched new evidence-based report on FGM
With the support of The Vavengers and many other organisations, survivors and professionals working in the UK to end FGM, Women and Equality Committee of UK Parliament launched a new report on FGM. The report finds more action needs to tackle FGM and serious breaches of health equality.
The Vavengers fed written evidence to the report highlighting a need for a national survey, providing reconstructive surgery to survivors who need it under the NHS care and also provide specialist mental health care. The legal recommendations we made focused on increased convictions of male criminals as FGM is a male-driven Gender-Based Violence and also training of frontline policing and professionals.
